Duties

SBS is a nonprofit peer-run mental health organization that provides services in St. Lawrence County and other areas in the Central Region of NYS and is looking to hire a Maintenance Technician. This position will provide self-help and advocacy to persons who are active or former recipients of mental health services and project image as he/she serves as a mentor and role model. These job duties must be performed in a manner which is in keeping with the mission statement of SBS. The Maintenance Technician reports to the Director of Operations.
The essential functions, duties, skills, and expectations of this position include, but are not limited to, the tasks listed below.

Position Title: CORE PEER SPECIALIST
Position Summary:
To provide self-help, advocacy and psychosocial educational support to persons who are active or former recipients of mental health and/or substance abuse services. Service provision may take place within a mental health setting, within the community, or both.
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:

SCOPE AND PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To provide needed supervision and monitoring of warming center patrons and program under the supervision of the Peer Advocate. The center will operate during Code Blue period (cold winter months) 7 days per week, including holidays. Responsible for the general management of the program. Warming Center assistants ensure a safe, secure, comfortable, and supportive environment in a manner consistent with the philosophy, policies, and procedures of a low barrier approach to care for homeless individuals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Supervise patrons in the program including coaching patrons on program policies and rules as well as potential consequences for violation of program policies/rules.
· Address immediate basic needs, orienting the patron to the warming center program.
· Provide supplies to meet basic needs such as snack/meal, linens, and hygiene supplies.
· Provide conflict resolution, crisis intervention and support as needed.
· Supervise patron’s use of laundry and showers on an as needed basis.
· Assist other community providers, social services, etc. in working with patrons on their Individual Service needs. Promote activities to increase competence with activities of daily living and independent living skills.
· Maintain statistical accountability. Provide clear and concise daily log entries. Maintain up to date daily log/census.
· Complete shift specific tasks such as chore assignments, cleaning, laundry, intake sheets, etc.
· Commit to work schedule at least two weeks in advance, based on program operations, there may be on-call duties as well as regular scheduled hours
· Conduct basic intake information of each new patron
· Demonstrate cultural competence as well as integrate understanding into daily responsibilities.
