Duties

• Provide peer support through active listening, mentoring, and motivational interviewing techniques to clients experiencing behavioral health challenges.

• Assist clients in developing coping strategies and recovery plans tailored to their individual needs.

• Facilitate crisis intervention and crisis management when immediate support is required, ensuring safety and stabilization.

• Collaborate with clinical teams by documenting interactions and progress using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems accurately and confidentially.

• Support clients in navigating behavioral health services, community resources, and treatment options.

• Promote engagement in recovery activities, including group sessions or community events.

• Maintain a respectful, non-judgmental attitude that fosters trust and rapport with clients.

Skills

• Experience or training in crisis intervention and crisis management techniques.

• Knowledge of behavioral health, mental health counseling, addiction counseling, and social work principles.

• Strong mentoring skills with the ability to motivate others toward positive change.

• Familiarity with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems for documentation purposes.

• Excellent communication skills, including active listening and motivational interviewing.

SBS is a nonprofit peer-run mental health organization that provides services in St. Lawrence County and other areas in the Central Region of NYS and is looking to hire a Maintenance Technician. This position will provide self-help and advocacy to persons who are active or former recipients of mental health services and project image as he/she serves as a mentor and role model. These job duties must be performed in a manner which is in keeping with the mission statement of SBS. The Maintenance Technician reports to the Director of Operations.

The essential functions, duties, skills, and expectations of this position include, but are not limited to, the tasks listed below.

• Schedule varies as needed for STEP by STEP, Inc.

• Role is separate from management and operation

• Role is responsible for general repairs and regular maintenance of all STEP by STEP, Inc. buildings.

• Role maintains all inspection schedules

• Role is responsible for the key and security systems at STEP by STEP, Inc. buildings

• Keeps hallways, entryways, bathrooms, common areas, offices, and classrooms clean and disinfected (with the exception of cleaning up after staff or tenants)

• Disinfects railings, door handles and light switches, & etc.

• Keeps an inventory on cleaning supplies and orders supplies through purchase requests given to the Housing Program Manager

• Supervises volunteers and other work program helpers either tenant or not tenant

• Will train a tenant to assist and have the opportunity to learn custodial skills and experience if there is interest

• Will clean apartments when there is a move in or move on

• Reports to the Director Of Operations

Qualification:

• Must be self-motivated, independent, organized, detail oriented, efficient and have above average communication skills. Basic writing, math, computer skills are essential to this position. Must possess a clean NYS Driver’s License. Must possess Peer Specialist Certification prior to hire or within three months after coming on board. Must have lived experience with adversity and overcoming such as all SBS staff are expected to serve as a role models of hope and recovery for the individuals we serve, the providers we collaborate with, and the larger community as a whole. Must be able to collaborate and communicate well with other staff, programs, and departments of SBS to ensure efficiency of all daily functions of the agency.

SBS is looking for a Peer Advocate/Specialist to work with individuals who are identified as HARP/CORE service eligible in St. Lawrence county. Eligible candidates should possess a valid, NYS Driver's License and have the ability to travel within St. Lawrence County 90% of the time. A company vehicle will be provided.

Position Title: CORE PEER SPECIALIST

Position Summary:
To provide self-help, advocacy and psychosocial educational support to persons who are active or former recipients of mental health and/or substance abuse services. Service provision may take place within a mental health setting, within the community, or both.

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:

• Provide education/information about community resources.

• Assist individuals with submission of paperwork and applications.

• Assist during the referral, assessment, and acceptance process with another human service agency.

• Collaborate with other providers assisting the individual being served.

• Research information and resources needed to provide services or perform job duties.

• Travel within St. Lawrence County and in rare instances outside of the County.

• Document services provided in an electronic health record

• Be available to work flexible hours based on the needs of individuals we serve

• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

SCOPE AND PURPOSE OF POSITION:

To provide needed supervision and monitoring of warming center patrons and program under the supervision of the Peer Advocate. The center will operate during Code Blue period (cold winter months) 7 days per week, including holidays. Responsible for the general management of the program. Warming Center assistants ensure a safe, secure, comfortable, and supportive environment in a manner consistent with the philosophy, policies, and procedures of a low barrier approach to care for homeless individuals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

· Supervise patrons in the program including coaching patrons on program policies and rules as well as potential consequences for violation of program policies/rules.

· Address immediate basic needs, orienting the patron to the warming center program.

· Provide supplies to meet basic needs such as snack/meal, linens, and hygiene supplies.

· Provide conflict resolution, crisis intervention and support as needed.

· Supervise patron’s use of laundry and showers on an as needed basis.

· Assist other community providers, social services, etc. in working with patrons on their Individual Service needs. Promote activities to increase competence with activities of daily living and independent living skills.

· Maintain statistical accountability. Provide clear and concise daily log entries. Maintain up to date daily log/census.

· Complete shift specific tasks such as chore assignments, cleaning, laundry, intake sheets, etc.

· Commit to work schedule at least two weeks in advance, based on program operations, there may be on-call duties as well as regular scheduled hours

· Conduct basic intake information of each new patron

· Demonstrate cultural competence as well as integrate understanding into daily responsibilities.

Duties

• Conduct assessments to determine client needs and eligibility for housing assistance programs.

• Develop individualized housing plans that address client goals and barriers.

• Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to empower clients in their housing journey.

• Negotiate with landlords and property management companies to secure housing placements.

• Provide crisis intervention and management support for clients facing immediate challenges.

• Stay informed about Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) regulations and compliance requirements.

Experience
