Each year on October 10th, the world pauses to recognize World Mental Health Day, a time to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and promote better mental health for all. At S.T.E.P. by S.T.E.P., Inc., every day is an opportunity to advocate, empower, and create inclusive spaces where individuals can thrive in their mental wellness journeys.

Our Mission: Advocacy in Action

S.T.E.P. by S.T.E.P., Inc. was founded on the belief that everyone deserves access to support, dignity, and a safe place to grow—mentally, emotionally, and physically. Through our programs, we actively promote mental health awareness, fair housing, and community integration, breaking down the barriers of stigma and isolation that too often accompany mental illness.

We are proud to offer a range of services that make a tangible difference in people's lives:

CORE: Home and Community-Based Services

Our CORE (Community Oriented Recovery and Empowerment) services bring care directly to the individual, offering personalized support for those navigating mental health challenges. This program empowers people to build resilience, practice life skills, and access resources from the comfort of their homes or within their communities.

Housing: Stability as a Foundation for Recovery

We believe that safe, stable housing is a basic human right—and a key component of mental health. Our supported housing programs help individuals live independently while receiving the guidance they need. This allows for autonomy, personal growth, and an improved quality of life.

Garden & Greenhouse: Healing Through Nature

Nature has a powerful impact on mental wellness. Through our Garden and Greenhouse Initiative, participants get their hands in the soil, nurture plants, and reap the benefits of a calm, green space. It’s not just about growing food—it’s about growing confidence, patience, and peace.

Drop-In Center: A Safe Space to Connect

Our Drop-In Center is more than just a building—it’s a community hub. Here, individuals can come as they are, find companionship, engage in wellness activities, and connect with others who understand. It’s a space to be heard, supported, and celebrated.

Recent Activities: Nature, Fun, and Fellowship

There is no better time in Northern New York to embrace the season with group outings designed to connect people with the outdoors and each other. Highlights included a trip to Applewood Orchards, where participants enjoyed fresh air and fruit picking, and a spooky adventure on the Haunted Trail at the Red Barn Preserve. These outings are more than recreational—they’re healing, joyful experiences that foster connection and combat isolation.

Challenging Stigma—One Step at a Time

Stigma is still one of the biggest barriers to mental health care. At S.T.E.P. by S.T.E.P., Inc., we challenge this every day by creating safe, supportive, and empowering environments for all. Whether through housing support, community-based services, or simply offering a listening ear, we are committed to walking with individuals on their recovery journeys.
