As Mental Health Awareness Month continues, we are reminded that healing and wellness are not things we experience alone. They are built through connection, belonging, creativity, support, and the simple moments that remind us we matter to one another. This week at S.T.E.P. by S.T.E.P., Inc., we were grateful to experience all of those things together.
One of the highlights of the week was celebrating Paul’s birthday with members and staff at our Drop-In Center. Paul has been part of the S.T.E.P. by S.T.E.P. community for many years and brings something special with him everywhere he goes — a smile, a joke, a helping hand, and a genuine kindness that makes people feel welcome. Whether he’s sharing a funny story, talking about a good book, or stepping in to help someone who needs support, Paul reminds us what community truly looks like.
Birthdays at the Drop-In Center are always about more than cake and candles. They are about recognizing people, celebrating lives, and creating moments where everyone feels seen and valued. We are thankful for Paul and for the energy and laughter he brings to our support network every day.

This week also brought a meaningful visit from Thomas Robarge, who stopped by to donate one of his paintings for the new supportive housing project at 1515 Knox Street in Ogdensburg, which is scheduled to open this fall. Thomas has long been connected to the happenings at SBS, generously sharing his poetry, photography, and artwork with our community over the years.
Art has a powerful way of creating comfort, expression, and hope, especially within spaces designed for healing and stability. Thomas’s donation will help make the new housing feel more welcoming and personal for future residents, while also serving as a reminder of the incredible talent and generosity that exists within our community. We are deeply grateful for his continued support and creativity.
Today, we are also looking forward to one of our favorite traditions at the Drop-In Center — Movie Day. There is something special about gathering together, sharing popcorn, relaxing, and enjoying time with one another. This week’s feature is Iron Will, and we know it will bring plenty of excitement, conversation, and connection throughout the afternoon. Sometimes the simplest moments together are the ones that leave the biggest impact.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, the theme of community feels especially important. Mental health support does not happen only in offices or appointments. It happens around tables during birthday celebrations. It happens through conversations, shared laughter, creative expression, and showing up for one another consistently over time. Community is often the foundation that helps people continue moving forward.
As we look ahead to next week, we are excited to spend time at the SBS Farm in Heuvelton as planting season begins. There is something grounding and restorative about being outdoors, working with the earth, and watching growth unfold over time. We are also looking forward to holding our meditation and mindfulness gathering in a peaceful and beautiful location at the farm. It will be wonderful to reconnect with nature and see all of the changes and progress happening there.
Thank you to everyone who continues to be part of the S.T.E.P. by S.T.E.P., Inc. community. Every act of kindness, every conversation, every shared moment helps strengthen the support system that so many people rely on. Together, we continue building spaces where people feel connected, encouraged, and supported — step by step.
